How Can I Make AI-Generated Text Sound More Human?

I’ve been using AI to draft content, but the writing often sounds robotic and repetitive. I need tips for making AI-generated text feel more natural, conversational, and human without losing clarity.

If the original prompt is vague, editing the output afterward will only get you so far. Give the AI a specific audience, tone, purpose, and a sample of the style you want. “Explain this to a busy small-business owner” works better than “make it sound human.”

Then edit for the habits AI tends to repeat: overly tidy transitions, equal-length paragraphs, repeated conclusions, unnecessary summaries, and phrases you would never say aloud. Read the draft out loud. If a sentence feels awkward to speak, shorten it or replace it with wording you would actually use. Adding a concrete opinion, example, or limitation helps too, since generic certainty is often what makes the text feel artificial.

A tool like Clever AI Humanizer can speed up the first editing pass, but I would still review the result for accuracy and voice. The goal should not be to sprinkle in slang or random imperfections. It should sound like a specific person writing for a specific reader.

Strip out any sentence that only repeats the point before it. AI drafts often feel robotic because they explain everything twice, so cutting 20% is usually more effective than trying to “humanize” every line.

Over-editing can make the draft sound even less human because every sentence ends up with the same polished rhythm. @chris64 is right about cutting repetition, but replace generic phrasing with words you’d actually say, including the occasional short sentence or blunt aside.

Nobody here mentioned that the flat feeling usually comes from missing information, not missing personality. If the draft has no detail only you would know, no amount of rhythm-fixing or humanizer passing will save it. Drop in one specific thing the AI couldn’t have guessed and it stops sounding generic.
